Speaking 1 Topic: Shop at large grocery or department store?

Some individuals prefer to do shopping in large grocery stores or department stores. Others prefer small local stores or convenience stores. Which one do you prefer and why? Use specific reasons and examples to support your response.

This is how I would approach the question:

Notes:

  1. Small, local store
  2. Reason 1 - Warm and friendly
  3. Reason 2 - Local economy
  4. Example - Store run by my neighbour

Here is my detailed answer:

I believe in going as local as possible, whether it's food, clothes, or any other requirement. Therefore, I prefer to buy from small stores in my neighbourhood. First, I like the warm, friendly atmosphere in local stores. The owners of these stores and their staff greet me every time I visit them, because they know me well. Also, when I buy from a local store, I know that the money I spend enriches the local economy. For example, there is a small store a few blocks away from where I live. It's run by a middle-aged couple. I know that every purchase I make at their store helps them save up for their dream of buying a house in the same neighbourhood.
