Speaking 1 Topic: Is it important to learn domestic skills early in life?

Some people are of the opinion that young people must learn some domestic skills, such as cooking, sewing, and childcare. Others feel this is not important. What is your opinion?

In the 15 seconds I have for note-taking, here’s what I would jot down:

  1. Yes
  2. Reason 1: Life skills
  3. Reason 2: Responsibility
  4. Example: Friend who ran a gourmet bakery at a young age

I definitely believe that it is important to learn a few domestic skills at an early age. First, I would refer to domestic responsibilities as life skills. Cooking, for example, is a skill that comes in very handy during college years and adult life. By learning these basic skills, young people do not have to be dependent on external help. In addition, these skills bring a sense of responsibility to the person practicing them. This is a trait that is valued in personal as well as professional life. I remember a friend of mine in school who had to learn these skills early, because he had three younger siblings and his parents were busy doing multiple jobs. While he complained at that time, he now runs a successful gourmet bakery and attributes his success to the skills he acquired early.
